{"id":39345,"date":"2026-09-08T21:40:07","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T21:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/39345\/"},"modified":"2026-09-08T21:40:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-08T21:40:07","slug":"ukraine-contracting-around-1000-patriot-missiles-from-allies-defense-chief-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/39345\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine contracting around 1,000 Patriot missiles from allies, defense chief says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Ukraine is contracting a supply of around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2026\/09\/05\/ukraine-asks-eu-to-fund-first-pac-3-patriot-buy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/news\/pentagon-congress\/2026\/09\/05\/ukraine-asks-eu-to-fund-first-pac-3-patriot-buy\/\">1,000 missiles<\/a> for U.S.-designed Patriot air-defence systems with the help of allies and through a European Union loan, Kyiv\u2019s defense minister said on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Speaking at a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, Yevhenii Khmara also said that the majority of the missiles would only be shipped in the coming years, and called for more urgent aid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">In comments posted later by the Defence Ministry, Khmara said Ukraine was asking its Western partners to provide more air defense missiles from their stocks in exchange for improvements in missile performance under contracts signed with Kyiv.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">He said Ukraine was being hindered by a shortfall of $27 billion in financing for drone supplies.<\/p>\n<p>RELATED<img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/IBQQHLHUMFDNJABVXVAH7GCPYM.jpg\"  width=\"3078\" height=\"2369\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The ministry\u2019s summary of the meeting said Khmara had presented a plan for Ukraine\u2019s conduct of the war that was already being implemented along with a list of what Kyiv considered to be the biggest threats posed by Moscow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Khmara said Russia was making no strategic gains along the 1,200-km (750-mile) front line, but Moscow was making up for its battlefield failures with \u201cterror against Ukrainians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Russia resumed its near-constant drone and missile attacks on Kyiv on Tuesday after a brief halt for the visit of U.S. peace negotiators.
