{"id":4554,"date":"2026-06-12T08:19:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T08:19:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/4554\/"},"modified":"2026-06-12T08:19:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T08:19:15","slug":"russian-advance-could-shift-ukraine-talks-mp-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/4554\/","title":{"rendered":"Russian Advance Could Shift Ukraine Talks, MP Says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aleksey Zhuravlev says Russian advances in the special military operation could affect Ukraine talks and push Kiev\u2019s allies toward negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Russian advances in\u00a0the special military operation zone could reshape the diplomatic track on\u00a0Ukraine, Aleksey Zhuravlev, first deputy chairman of\u00a0the State Duma Defense Committee, told <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ru\/vlast\/v-gosdume-nazvali-sposoby-zastavit-ukrainu-i-zapad-uskorit-peregovory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">NEWS.ru<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Zhuravlev argued that further settlement should not be\u00a0discussed with Vladimir Zelensky, saying the Ukrainian leader does not make independent decisions. In\u00a0his view, any substantive dialogue would be\u00a0possible mainly with representatives of\u00a0major global powers, including the United States or\u00a0China.<\/p>\n<p>He\u00a0also described Zelensky as\u00a0a\u00a0British proxy and said that, in\u00a0his opinion, only the elimination of\u00a0the Ukrainian president could change the situation in\u00a0some way.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmaker stressed that Russia is\u00a0seeking not just peace talks, but the demilitarization and denazification of\u00a0Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Zhuravlev named continued battlefield success by\u00a0Russian forces as\u00a0a\u00a0factor that could push Ukraine and the West toward negotiations. He\u00a0said this could include a\u00a0possible advance to\u00a0the Dnieper, after which Kiev\u2019s\u00a0Western allies might conclude that there is\u00a0no\u00a0longer any point in\u00a0holding on\u00a0to\u00a0Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said he\u00a0did not expect a\u00a0sudden shift in\u00a0the position of\u00a0European countries on\u00a0a\u00a0Ukrainian settlement.
