On Saturday, the Ukrainian leader offered to pay<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/world\/zelenskyy-says-at-least-55000-ukrainian-troops-killed-since-start-of-war-13976309.html\" id=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/world\/zelenskyy-says-at-least-55000-ukrainian-troops-killed-since-start-of-war-13976309.html\" class=\"body_anchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">soldiers<\/a> higher wages and to provide fixed-term contracts while expanding recruitment of foreign volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>This is coming at a time when<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/world\/ukraine-says-strike-hits-russian-oil-facility-as-drone-attack-kills-one-in-southern-russia-14022104.html\" id=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/world\/ukraine-says-strike-hits-russian-oil-facility-as-drone-attack-kills-one-in-southern-russia-14022104.html\" class=\"body_anchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ukraine<\/a> is preparing for its counter-efforts against the latest Russian aggression. In a video message, Zelenskyy said that the plan was aimed at improving the financial sustainability of Ukraine\u2019s defence and continuing the transformation of the army after more than four years of war.<\/p>\n<p>STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have the resources to increase pay in the military. The more combat missions, the higher the level of pay,\u201d the Ukrainian leader said, adding that the minimum wages for troops serving in rear areas would be set at 30,000 hryvnias (\u20ac580) per month.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from this, he also announced new infantry contracts that would offer an average of 300,000 hryvnias (\u20ac5,790) a month for frontline service; all this depends on the intensity of combat missions.<\/p>\n<p>It is pertinent to note that currently, Ukraine\u2019s frontline infantry can earn up to around 100,000 hryvnias (\u20ac1,930), including combat bonuses, while rear positions typically start from much lower levels. \u201cEverything depends on our Ukrainian infantryman,\u201d Zelenskyy emphasised.<\/p>\n<p>Push for fixed terms and foreign recruits<\/p>\n<p>He noted that payments for combat commanders would also be increased to retain experienced troops within the Ukrainian armed forces. Zelenskyy\u2019s latest military overhaul is coming at a time when Ukraine is preparing to ask<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/world\/europe-looks-lost-zelenskyy-criticises-allies-says-ukrainians-face-a-groundhog-day-of-war-and-delay-13971519.html\" id=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/world\/europe-looks-lost-zelenskyy-criticises-allies-says-ukrainians-face-a-groundhog-day-of-war-and-delay-13971519.html\" class=\"body_anchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">allies<\/a> for an additional $20 billion in military funding at next week\u2019s Ramstein-format meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The Ukrainian officials are looking to exploit what they described as a \u201csix- to nine-month window of opportunity on the battlefield\u201d against<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/world\/ukraine-says-strike-hits-russian-oil-facility-as-drone-attack-kills-one-in-southern-russia-14022104.html\" id=\"https:\/\/www.firstpost.com\/world\/ukraine-says-strike-hits-russian-oil-facility-as-drone-attack-kills-one-in-southern-russia-14022104.html\" class=\"body_anchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Russia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Zelenskyy said that the military overhaul would also introduce fixed-term service of 10, 14 and 24 months. This brings major relief to many mobilised troops who have served for years without a clear timeline for rotation or temporary discharge.
