{"id":6668,"date":"2026-06-17T17:33:51","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T17:33:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/6668\/"},"modified":"2026-06-17T17:33:51","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T17:33:51","slug":"ukraine-expands-virtual-military-training-with-new-counter-drone-simulator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/6668\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine Expands Virtual Military Training With New Counter-Drone Simulator\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/dronefront.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">&#13;<br \/>\n    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ukraine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1781717631_439_WhatsAppVideo2026-05-15at09.23.58.gif\" alt=\"The Drone Front\" width=\"1280\" height=\"539\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finnish company Varjo has <a href=\"https:\/\/varjo.com\/news\/varjo-expands-supply-of-multi-domain-training-capabilities-to-ukrainian-armed-forces-to-include-c-uas-simulator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">expanded<\/a> its support for the Ukrainian Armed Forces by delivering a mixed-reality training system designed to prepare troops for counter-drone operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The system, known as Horizon Guardian, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.appliedvirtual.net\/horizon-guardian\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">developed<\/a> by Australian firm Applied Virtual Simulation in response to lessons from the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using Varjo\u2019s XR-4 headset, it places trainees in a simulated engagement in which one operator flies a first-person view drone while the other attempts to detect and neutralize the threat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The platform is weapon-agnostic, meaning it can be used with different firearm configurations, and supports both AI-controlled and human-operated drone threats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also allows instructors to adjust difficulty levels, environmental conditions, signal interference, and jamming effects, while integrated after-action review tools provide performance analysis and replay functions to evaluate trainees\u2019 decisions and engagement outcomes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith drones now accounting for 70-80 percent of casualties in Ukraine, the simulator is designed to replicate the pressures, sounds, and pace that soldiers on the frontline face,\u201d stated Varjo.<\/p>\n<p>Building a Virtual Training Network<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The delivery of the counter-drone simulator expands a broader network of XR-based training capabilities already fielded for Ukrainian forces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier this year, 39 mixed-reality training systems were supplied to Ukraine through a partnership between Varjo and the Finnish software developer Fynd Reality, under Norway\u2019s Nansen support program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The systems provide familiarization, procedural, and maintenance training for several military platforms, including Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks, reducing reliance on scarce operational equipment for training.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ukraine has also received an F-16 mixed-reality cockpit simulator developed by the Czech company Dogfight Boss, allowing pilots to rehearse procedures and mission scenarios domestically.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"&#13;
