The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has signed Memorandums of Agreement (MoAs) with the National Sugar Institute (NSI), Kanpur, and the Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI), Pune, to identify energy-saving opportunities and improve energy efficiency across India’s sugar industry, the organisation announced on its social media X.
The collaboration will focus on developing frameworks to promote energy conservation, conducting energy audits and technical assessments, and providing technical support to sugar mills to improve operational efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
The partnership will also help identify opportunities for adopting energy-efficient technologies and improving the overall energy performance of sugar factories across the country.
The signing ceremony was attended by BEE Secretary Arijit Sengupta, Director S K Khandare, Joint Director Vivek Negi and Senior Sector Expert-Sugar Ashish Ranjan Srivastava.
Representatives from the two research institutions included NSI Director Dr Seema Paroha and Assistant Professor (Sugar Engineering) Dr Vinay Kumar. VSI was represented by Director General Sambhaji Kadupatil, Head of Sugar Engineering and Renewable Energy Department Rajendra Chandgude, and Head of Alcohol Technology and Bio-fuel Department Dr Kakasaheb Konde.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen institutional cooperation between BEE and the two leading sugar research organisations while helping mills identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption and improve resource utilisation.
The initiative is aimed at supporting the modernisation of India’s sugar industry and advancing the country’s broader energy conservation and sustainability objectives.
