Protesters gathered in Berlin-Kreuzberg on 24 October to support Casa Kuà and The Dolls, calling for better access to healthcare for trans people after police searched the community centre the previous Sunday.

The demonstration began at Mariannenplatz under the slogan “Hände weg von Trans Leben!”, meaning “Hands off trans lives”. Queer.de reported the protest, while Berlin’s published assembly schedule listed a trans community demonstration there that afternoon.

The search has brought scrutiny to the barriers people face when seeking care. Casa Kuà describes itself as a community and health centre for trans, intersex and queer people. The Dolls, a transfeminine group, meets at the centre.

According to a prosecutors’ spokesperson quoted in dpa’s reporting, the investigation concerns suspected illegal trading in prescription medicines, including hormones. Those allegations remain allegations.

In a statement published on 21 October, the Schwules Museum said a trans women’s support group was meeting when police entered. Its board criticised obstacles to treatment and reimbursement, including bureaucracy and a shortage of trained clinicians. It argued that self-organised groups provide support where public services fall short.

The museum called for de-escalation, an explanation and an apology. Saturday’s demonstration carried that debate into the street, with healthcare access and the protection of community spaces at its centre.

Information about the centre and its activities is available through Casa Kuà.
