Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress has clarified that foreign policy should be based on national interest, sovereign equality, independent decision-making, and mutual respect. The political proposal presented by President Gagan Thapa at the party’s general convention has set policy directions to expand mutual interest and economic partnership with neighboring and friendly nations, as well as to establish Nepal as a peaceful and self-respecting country in the global community.<\/p>\n
President Thapa has mentioned in the political proposal that geopolitical competition has created further pressure on Nepal’s economic relations, citizens’ security, and independent decision-making capacity, and this needs to be addressed with a long-term vision. President Thapa has also emphasized guaranteeing the security, respect, and opportunities for Nepalis living abroad, and connecting the knowledge, investment, and economic relations of Nepalis living outside the country with national prosperity.<\/p>\n
He mentioned that national independence is not only the protection of borders and diplomatic freedom but also the building of national capacity to implement one’s decisions in energy, finance, technology, supply, and diplomacy.<\/p>\n
The proposal also mentions appointing individuals to diplomatic service based on merit, capability, and integrity, and strengthening Nepal’s independence and options in the fields of technology, knowledge, and financial relations.<\/p>\n
