CHICAGO (AZFamily) — Scary moments unfolded for dozens of travelers heading to Phoenix when a tire blew on their United Airlines plane in Chicago Thursday afternoon.
United Airlines said Flight 455 was taking off from Chicago O’Hare Airport when the tire blew and the pilot had to abort the takeoff around 1:45 p.m.
The Boeing 737-900 could not make it back to the terminal, so all 161 customers and six crew members used airstairs to get off the plane on the tarmac. Buses then took them back to the terminal.
There are no reports of injuries.
The passengers and crew boarded another flight and landed in Phoenix just before 7:30 p.m.
It’s unclear what caused the blown tire. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident.
