JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The community is invited to remember longtime Jacksonville officer XY Brown at a public viewing and celebration of life.
The viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. August 23 at Sandy Run Missionary Baptist Church on Hargett Street in Jacksonville.
A celebration of life will follow at 11 a.m. August 24 at River of Life Church on Gum Branch Road.
Brown will then be laid to rest at Coastal Carolina Veterans’ Cemetery on Montford Landing Road.
Drivers should expect some traffic delays during the services. Jacksonville police say they’ll share updates as the ceremonies get closer.
Brown retired from the Jacksonville Police Department in December 2025 at 98 years old, after 68 years of serving the community.
He was the department’s oldest officer and was believed to be the oldest serving police officer in the country.
