Saginaw High School sophomores Abigail and Madison Vandiver, who are twins, competed in the UIL State Cross-Examination Debate Tournament.
It was their first year competing. Their first year in debate. It was their first representing their school in the contest at the University of Texas at Austin.
“I joined debate because I thought it would be fun to do something with my sister,” Madison said. “I didn’t really know what CX [Cross-Examination] was at first, but the more I learned, the more I loved it.”
“Having a sister as a partner can be a challenge,” Abigail said with a smile. “We argue and bicker like siblings do, but I love being with someone who knows me so well. We can just look at each other after a round and laugh about it. You don’t always get that with someone else.”
