Almost a decade ago, Honor introduced the Magic 3 series with what became a signature look for the company’s flagship phones: a centrally placed camera bump. And this fall, with Honor’s Magic 9 series, this camera design may finally retire.
The circular camera bump at the center has been a staple of Honor’s Magic series design for nearly eight years, but the Magic 9 series will likely transform this look.
Magic 2 series debuted in 2018 with the Huawei P series-inspired vertical pill-shaped camera structure. Hereafter, the company introduced the circular lens module for all of the Magic smartphone lineups to date with certain tweaks every year.
Even last year’s release – the Magic 8 series with the Standard and Pro models features a centrally placed camera bump, rimmed by a rounded square frame. But things could be different this time, as Honor itself showed a glimpse of the upcoming flagship.
During the Robot Phone launch event, the Chinese company confirmed the Magic 9 series debut month – September and partially revealed its appearance.

Honor has shifted its giant camera ring more towards the left side rather than keeping it at the center. Instead of a plain rim surrounding the imaging sensor plate, the company has used an uplifted camera border with a grill-like pattern throughout.
Such a design has been missing from Honor’s flagship phones to date. But the Magic 9 series may end the wait. Though that’s just one part of the model’s back panel.
It is worth mentioning that the company has revamped almost every one of its smartphone lineup’s camera designs this year. Whether it’s the digital series or the X-tagged budget-friendly handsets. Though the flagship category is still left for the makeover.
Honor may drop the official Magic 9 series launch teaser in the first week of next month. By that time, the design details may appear in render leaks.
