Sunday’s high is expected to reach 103 degrees in Dallas and Fort Worth. Temperatures could climb to 104 degrees Monday and Tuesday in Dallas and reach 105 degrees Wednesday in parts of the region, the weather service said.

The hottest period is expected Monday through Wednesday, when afternoon highs generally will range from 101 to 104 degrees across North and Central Texas. Temperatures are forecast to remain above 100 degrees through at least Saturday in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Overnight temperatures will offer little relief, particularly in the urban core, where lows are expected to remain near 80 degrees.

NBC 5 meteorologist Adrienne Vonn said hot August weather would continue for the foreseeable future, with abundant sunshine and daily highs near or above 100 degrees. Much of North Texas has gone nearly a month without widespread rain, she said.

The weather service expects little to no rain during the next seven days as high pressure remains over the Southern Plains.

The prolonged hot and dry stretch also is drying vegetation and increasing the potential for grass fires. Afternoon humidity could fall below 30%, with even lower readings possible in western and northern parts of the region.

Although winds are expected to remain relatively modest, forecasters said persistent heat, low humidity and dry vegetation could support additional fire activity through early next week.

There are indications that the high-pressure system could weaken or shift late in the week, allowing small rain chances to return next weekend. Forecasters said confidence in that change remains low.

Residents should drink plenty of water, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day and check on relatives and neighbors. Children and pets should never be left inside a vehicle, even briefly.
