‘Everybody Eatz’: Free Houston pop-up grocery event aims to help families prepare for the school year

  • August 17, 2026

HOUSTON – Houston families can find free groceries, prepared food and family activities Sunday as part of an effort to address food insecurity before the start of the school year.

The Hugs in a Blanket Foundation will host Everybody Eatz: Ivan’s Pop-Up Grocery Store & Food Park from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Exotic Pop, 5410 Almeda Road in Houston.

Organizers say the event is intended to support families facing rising grocery costs and reduced access to food assistance. Guests will be able to select items including meat, produce, snacks and other dry goods in an indoor, air-conditioned setting.

The event will also include hot food from local vendors, hibachi, customizable tacos, cold drinks and a live DJ. Families can take part in free haircuts and hairstyling, a photo booth, raffles and giveaways.

“Rather than a typical back-to-school giveaway, we’re creating a real pop-up grocery experience—plus hot, prepared options—so families can stock up and enjoy time together,” said Ivan Lambert, the nonprofit’s founder.

Children’s activities will include a foam party, bounce house, mechanical bull riding competition and a mobile basketball competition.

All offerings are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Early arrival is encouraged.
