A man has died after being struck by the light rail, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The man was crossing the light rail tracks near 19th and Missouri Avenues in central Phoenix when he was hit by the northbound light rail, said Sgt. Rob Scherer with Phoenix police.

The man was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition, according to Captain Daniel “DJ” Lee with the Phoenix Fire Department. He did not survive his injuries, Scherer said.

No other people were injured, according to Scherer.

“Additional details about the collision remain part of the ongoing investigation,” Scherer said.

The man’s identity was not yet known, as of July 28.
