A longtime member of ABC13’s news team is signing off after nearly a decade in Houston.
ABC13 news director Keaton Fuchs confirmed to Chron that weekend morning anchor Charly Edsitty is leaving the station. Her last day is Sept. 24.
“It is so bittersweet to say goodbye after an incredible journey at ABC13,” Edsitty wrote in an internal email to staff obtained by local media blogger Mike McGuff. She said she was proud of what the newsroom accomplished together and thanked her colleagues for their hard work, memories and laughs.
Edsitty, who has not publicly announced her departure, joined ABC13 in 2018 as a multimedia journalist and was promoted to weekend morning anchor in 2023.
In her farewell message, Edsitty said her eight years in Houston shaped her into the journalist she is today. She praised her ABC13 colleagues as some of the most dedicated and talented people she has worked with and called it a privilege to share a newsroom with them.
“It was a fun ride and I will always root for your continued success,” Edsitty wrote.
A member of the Navajo Nation, Edsitty grew up in Glendale, Ariz., and graduated from Baylor University with a degree in print journalism. She is also a member of the Native American Journalists Association.
Her broadcast career began in 2013 at KPNX in Phoenix, where she started as a planning producer before working her way into an on-air reporting role for 12 News Today. She later worked as a bureau reporter in Flagstaff before returning to Phoenix as a general assignment reporter.
