An NYPD officer and at least four other victims were killed in a shooting at an office skyscraper in midtown Manhattan Monday evening, according to law enforcement sources.
The shooting occurred in the lobby of 345 Park Avenue on East 52nd Street. The gunman, armed with an assault rifle, shot a police officer, multiple sources said. The police officer was rushed to the hospital, but later died.
At least four civilians were also killed, according to police.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said just before 8 p.m. that the shooter was “neutralized” and the scene had been contained.
The suspect was later identified as Shane Tamura, who sources said died from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head on the 33rd floor of the office high-rise. A motive for the shooting was not clear.
Records indicate that multinational businesses with offices inside the building at that address include the National Football League, as well as financial firms Blackstone and KPMG.
