1 dead, 2 state troopers hurt after aircrafts collide midair in Pennsylvania
CARLISLE, Pa. —
Two troopers were injured, and one person has died after a small aircraft collided with a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Wednesday afternoon.
Pennsylvania State Police and other officials are expected to hold a press conference on the incident at 10:30 p.m. This press conference will be streamed in the playfinder above once live.
During a press conference held by Pennsylvania Police Acting Commissioner Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens and Governor Josh Shapiro, officials said a Cessna 150 airplane and a Bell 407 helicopter collided in midair near Carlisle around 7 p.m.
Bivens said a police helicopter was in a grassy area conducting routine training when it was hit by a small Cessna aircraft.
Two troopers inside the helicopter were injured and taken to the hospital, there current condition remains unknown.
Bivens said one person in the Cessna plane did not survive. Their identity has not been released.
Shapiro issued a statement on Facebook, saying, “I’ve been briefed on the aircraft crash involving PA State Police this evening in Carlisle, and I am heading there now. Lori and I are praying hard, and we ask all of our fellow Pennsylvanians to join us.”
