PHOENIX (AZFamily) — An armed man is dead after police say a security guard shot him at a Phoenix gas station on Tuesday.
Phoenix police were called to the QuikTrip on Peoria Avenue just off Interstate 17 around 12:30 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a 44-year-old man who had been shot. The man was hospitalized but later died, police said Wednesday.

Police said officers detained the shooter, whom they identified as a uniformed security guard contracted by QuikTrip.
Investigators say the man who was shot pulled a gun during a confrontation, and the guard fired in response.
The guard was later released, and the man who died has not been identified as the investigation continues.
