he Creighton men’s basketball program has officially added four staff members while promoting Mitch Ballock to assistant coach, head coach Greg McDermott announced on Monday.

In addition to Ballock, Mike Nesbitt was named an assistant coach, while Julien BerryMalik Garner and Geoffrey Groselle were named graduate assistants for the upcoming 2025-26 campaign.

A native of Eudora, Kan., Ballock played at Creighton from 2017-21 before playing professionally for two seasons. He has served as a graduate assistant with the Bluejays over the past two seasons before this promotion into a full-time role as an assistant coach. 

Ballock scored 1,304 points and made 308 three-pointers with Creighton while starting the final 102 games of his Bluejay career. He was named to the BIG EAST’s All-Freshman Team in 2017-18 and earned the BIG EAST’s Sportsmanship Award in 2021.

Nesbitt joins the Bluejay staff as an assistant coach after serving in a similar role the past two seasons at High Point. Nesbitt was Alan Huss’ first hire at High Point in 2023. Huss left his role as head coach at High Point to return to Creighton in April as Associate Head Coach and Coach in Waiting.

Nesbitt has previously served as head coach at Panola College, where he helped the Ponies to a school-record 28 victories in 2022-23 and earned Region XIV East Coach of the Year honors.  Nesbitt’s prior experience also includes two years at Bradley, one season at New Mexico Junior College and one year each at Panola College, Southern Utah and the University of New Mexico.

Nesbitt grew up in Evansville, Ind., and played three seasons at Missouri A&T before transferring to New Mexico for his final year of eligibility.

Berry has been a student manager at Creighton the previous four years and is an Aurora, Ill., native.

Garner played collegiately at Saginaw Valley State and LeMoyne. The Midland, Mich., product served as a graduate assistant the past two seasons at High Point alongside Huss and Nesbitt.

Groselle played at Creighton from 2011-16 before the Plano, Texas native embarked on a long professional career that included stops in Germany, Kazakhstan, France, Italy and Poland.

The additions help offset the departures of Ryan Miller, Jahenns Manigat and Lucas Vargas from the staff in recent months.

Creighton finished its 2024-25 season with a 25-11 record and are one of four teams nationally to win an NCAA Tournament game each of the past five seasons.
