SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A 17-year-old has spent more than two weeks on life support after he broke his neck during lifeguard training in California.
The accident happened when Finn Renard took a dive into the ocean off Mission Bay on his last day of his junior lifeguard internship.
Nineteen days after he broke his neck, Finn is in the ICU and on life support.
“Just please pray for him,” Courtney Renard, Finn’s mother, said.

Renard is devastated for her son, but so thankful for the support from the community.
A GoFundMe has already reached a goal of $60,000 thanks to more than 350 donations.
“I think people look at San Diego at this big place. I’ve lived here my whole life up until five years ago and we are really a small community,” Renard said.
Finn actually doesn’t live in San Diego. His family moved to Texas five years ago, but he travels each summer for the junior lifeguard program.
Renard said this was his favorite part of the year.
“He’s a character, super sweet. When they had brought him in, they were getting ready to perform his surgery, he can’t move his arms. He, I guess, told them to remove the mask and he said, ‘I just wanted to thank you all for doing the best to try to keep me alive,’ And that’s who he is,” Renard said.
