Looking for a spot to grab dinner while savoring some cabernet sauvignon? Maybe you’re more of a riesling aficionado? Whatever your poison, there are eateries around the county ready to pour for you.
Wine doesn’t have to feel formal or inaccessible, so I’ve made this week’s column a mix of educational and extracurricular options so there’s something for everyone, whether you’re looking to expand your champagne knowledge or just want to spend an evening chatting with fellow prosecco lovers.
I’ve also come up with a quick joke for you that will make sense in a moment.
What was the sommelier’s favorite book? “Grape Expectations.” She tried “The Grapes of Wrath” but didn’t like it, for some raisin.

Italian vino and dinner at Acquario Italian Restaurant
For a full culinary experience, Acquario Italian Restaurant in Keller is having its Taste of Tuscany dinner Aug. 26. A seat at the table costs $99 with tickets available online. The five courses kick off at 6 p.m. with a braised octopus in borlotti cream sauce and paired with Campo al Mare Vermentino white wine. Round 2 is crab and lobster ravioli in spicy brandy and cream sauce alongside Cabreo La Pietra chardonnay.
Risotto Padovana pasta with porcini mushrooms and chicken liver is served with Tenuta di Biserno Campo di Sasso Insoglio del Cinghiale super Tuscan red. The final savory is rosemary tagliata New York strip with roasted potatoes and a red wine reduction. The paired red is Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto.
Dessert is limoncello tartufo beside a sparkling sweet red.

Wines on tap and bookish events at WineHaus
WineHaus is a boutique wine bar and shop with wines on tap, a selection of 3-ounce pour flights, beers, nontap wines and nonalcoholic spritzers. Their menu shows light bar bites as charcuterie, spreads with crackers and chocolates.
The watering hole also serves as the city’s unofficial go-to spot for low-key bookish gatherings. For example, there’s the weekly silent book club meetings Tuesdays 5-9 p.m. where attendees bring a book, sip wine and chat — or don’t — about their current reads. No assigned texts, just vino and vibes.
Book lovers also might consider checking out their upcoming book and puzzle swap Aug. 22 from 2-6 p.m.
“For the swap, you can bring up to 20 used books and up to 5 puzzles anytime during opening hours the week prior to the Swap,” according to the bar’s events page. “You’ll receive 1 ticket per book/puzzle to then claim” on Aug. 22.
Those wanting to get more active can get tickets for their Wind Down Wednesday yoga class 6-7 p.m. Aug. 26. A $15 ticket buys guests a spot in the class and a glass of sparkling white wine. All yoga levels are welcome, but a ticket is required, according to their events page.

Champagne tasting at Ellerbe Fine Foods
Ellerbe Fine Foods will host their Champagne Educational Dinner 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Sept. 10. The evening will highlight bottles from Skurnik Wines through four flights of 12 wines, “all offering an approachable education in the region, its producers and its methods,” according to a news release. The menu and pricing hasn’t been announced yet.
The restaurant on West Magnolia Avenue is known for its farm-to-table seasonal menu. Their extensive seasonal and master wine lists are available on their website.
