Newcastle United lost out on Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool, and to add insult to that transfer injury, Liverpool might also end up with Alexander Isak, too! Newcastle’s leading goalscorer sure seems to be trying to force a move to the Premier League champions, leaving the Magpies in desperate need of a striker … or two.

And that desperation could grow as we start heading into the final month of the transfer window since many of the top targets at the position have already made their moves — including the two Vik/ctors, with Gyökeres now at Arsenal and Osimhen joining Galatasaray for good. Even Chelsea have conducted our business in this regard some time ago, adding Liam Delap and João Pedro.

Their arrivals have (potentially) made Christopher Nkunku and maybe even Nicolas Jackson available, and it’s the latter who has generated noteworthy interest in recent weeks. Newcastle now join Manchester United and Juventus in that regard, shortlisting the 24-year-old who has scored 30 goals for Chelsea since his arrival two seasons ago.

To be sure, Jackson’s not super high on that list, with Newcastle trying hard to get Benjamin Šeško at the moment, while also pleading with Brentford to let Yoane Wissa go (which is highly unlikely given that they already lost Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United). Ollie Watkins is another (unlikely) name linked, but he’s surely also less available than Jackson.

Chelsea have reportedly set a hands-off asking price for Jackson (one-hundred-million dollaroos), but I get the feeling that if a team were to show some actual, serious interest, we might be willing to negotiate… (especially if Nkunku is still around).
