Fort Worth’s Sendera Springs Library branch, under construction in northwest Fort Worth, is on schedule to be completed in December, the city staff told members of the Fort Worth Library Advisory Board in an update during their Aug. 6 meeting.
Voters approved the 18,000-square-foot branch, at 1307 Avondale Road, in the city’s 2022 bond program.
The branch features:
- Large multipurpose room, creative lab, three study rooms available to be reserved, natural light, public art installation by Susan Narduli.
- Flexible conference room accessible to staff and public.
- Outdoor gathering spaces and scenic views.
Construction is set to finish in December 2026. Sherry Knight, assistant director of operations for the Fort Worth Public Library, told board members the branch is on schedule for a January 2027 opening.
Office elections
The board nominated and elected Chris Campbell as new vice chair of the board. Campbell was unopposed. His term will begin Oct. 1.
Strategic plan update
The library’s strategic plan is nearing completion, with extensive community and staff engagement.
J.R. Clanton of BerryDunn, the library management consulting firm the city hired, gave an overview of the plan to board members.
This plan is intended to guide daily decisions and resource allocation, and be integrated into staff work plans and public communications.
Clanton’s presentation covered project updates, the library’s community and staff engagement roles and next steps. The project is in its final phase.
Community engagement has included over 1,000 surveys and 142 budget exercises. Internally, a group of staff members from throughout the system met four times on the plan. The plan lists several key focus areas:
- Lifelong learning
- Access and technology
- Community space
- Community of readers
- Trusted partner
This project began in November 2025 and will run through September 2026.
Board member reports
The Fort Worth City Council is in its budget review period, and the staff encouraged board members to attend community budget workshops Aug. 12-Sept. 15 and speak on behalf of the library.
The next board meeting will be Oct. 1, 2026, at the Summerglen Library Branch.
