LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – No more late-night burritos in the Highlands as legendary ‘burritos as big as your head’ restaurant La Bamba has permanently closed its doors.
The announcement surfaced on social media Friday, Aug. 21, with a simple notice posted to the door of the restaurant: “We regret to inform you that La Bamba is permanently closed for business.”
Located in the heart of Louisville’s most popular restaurant and nightlife district, La Bamba served as a culinary rite of passage for generations of locals, college students, and late-night bar patrons.
Celebrated for its affordable, fast, and massive hand-held burritos, the spot was a fixture of Bardstown Road’s distinct nightlife.
Tributes immediately poured in across local social media platforms as residents mourned the loss of a neighborhood icon.
“I feel like I just lost something so personal,” one local patron commented online. “I’ll never forget when they were actually on Bonnycastle.”
The closure marks the end of an era for the local late-night dining scene, leaving Highlands residents searching elsewhere for their midnight cravings. No official reason for the sudden closure has been released by management.
