Construction is set to begin this month on the next stage of improvements to Bonds Ranch Road in northwest Fort Worth.
The Bonds Ranch Road segment 4 project will expand the road between Wagley Robertson Road to Hawks Landing Road at a total $37.2 million cost.
Bonds Ranch Road is an 8-mile stretch of road being improved through partnerships between the city of Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas Department of Transportation and North Central Texas Council of Governments. The project is so large in scope that it was broken into six segments with separate funding.
“As this is a capital project voted on by the public as part of the city’s bond program, neighbors are happy to see this arrive at construction, which is expected to begin this month,” Lara Ingram, a public information officer for the city, said. “This is a great improvement to mobility for this area.”
McCarthy Building Companies Inc. will begin construction this month on segment 4, with construction to end in March 2028. It will expand Bonds Ranch to a four-lane divided roadway, with the ability to expand to six lanes.
The four lanes will be separated by a median that will provide turn lanes serving Braewood Drive (westbound traffic), Emerald Park Lane (eastbound traffic), and two turn lanes for the businesses and a church (eastbound traffic).
The project includes new traffic signals where Bonds Ranch Road intersects Fossil Springs Road-Kittering Terrace, and where it crosses Wagley Robertson Road. The project also includes a shared use path on each side of the road, streetlights and drainage improvements. Lastly, the project also includes construction of a pavement connection to a future frontage road at Wagley Robertson where it meets U.S. 287.

While a timeline for each phase has not been completed, these are the phases:
- Phase 1: Two lanes moving from Hawks Landing Road to Wagley Robertson Road (moving from east to west). The additional lanes will be north of the existing roadway and connect the existing driveways and neighborhood connections to the new lanes. Crews will build a temporary road as a connector to Bonds Ranch Road.
- Phase 2: Improvements along Wagley Robertson Road where it connects to Bonds Ranch Road moving west. During this phase, motorists will follow the temporary road constructed during the first phase while moving to or from Bonds Ranch Road to Wagley Robertson Road.
- Phase 3: Improvements along Bonds Ranch Road where it connects to Braewood Drive and Foothill Drive, in addition to where it connects to Fossil Springs Drive.
The project funding includes $22.3 million in construction costs. Funding sources include $15.9 million approved by Fort Worth voters in the city’s 2022 bond program, $12.4 million in Tarrant County bond funds, $7.8 million from transportation impact fees/other funds and $250,000 in developer contributions.
Federal money makes up the remainder of the total costs.
On June 6, 2023, Amit Bose, Federal Railroad Administration administrator, announced $17.7 million for the city of Fort Worth as part of its railroad crossing elimination program.
“I know the Bonds Ranch Road rail crossing is something the community here has worked very hard to find a solution for, with good reason,” Bose said. “This rural two-lane road serves nearly 18,000 vehicles daily as a vital east-west connector to U.S. 287 and surrounding communities.”
The city included the final two segments of the Bonds Ranch Road improvements in the 2026 bond package as part of Proposition A. Voters on May 2 this year approved the package.
