Savannah Steel fall 70-60 to Jacksonville Waves
SAVANNAH, Ga. —
The Savannah Steel overcame a slow start and exchanged the lead 10 times with the Jacksonville Waves before falling 70-60 Saturday afternoon at Enmarket Arena.
Savannah made four field goals in the opening quarter and trailed 14-9. The Steel responded with 20 points in the second, fueled by forward Lauryn Taylor’s three 3-pointers, to enter halftime tied at 29.
Jacksonville took control after the break, outscoring Savannah 20-13 in the third quarter and building a lead that reached 18 points in the fourth.
Shyanne Sellers led the Waves with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists. Jasmine Walker and Rennia Davis scored 12 points each. Jacksonville’s reserves outscored Savannah’s bench 17-4.
Taylor led the Steel with 16 points and eight rebounds. Guard Ja’Leah Williams finished with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists, while Lasha Petree added 10 points and seven rebounds. Zee Spearman scored nine points.
Savannah shot 53% in the second quarter but finished 4 of 24, or 16.7%, from 3-point range. Jacksonville shot 46.4% from the field.
The Steel will host the Waves in the regular-season finale at 4 p.m. Sunday at Enmarket Arena.
