North Texas faces another day of dangerous heat Sunday after Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport tied the record high for Aug. 22.
The temperature at DFW Airport reached 105 degrees around 4:52 p.m. Saturday, matching the Aug. 22 record set in 1980 and 2010, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. The normal high for the date is 95 degrees.
Sunday could be even hotter. The weather service forecasts a high near 107 at DFW Airport, with heat-index values as high as 110. Temperatures elsewhere across North Texas are expected to range from about 103 to 108 degrees.

The record high at DFW Airport for Aug. 23 is 107 degrees, set in 1952 and tied in 2010. If the temperature reaches the forecast high Sunday, D-FW would match that record.
An extreme heat warning along and near the Interstate 20 corridor and a heat advisory elsewhere across North and Central Texas were scheduled to expire at 8 p.m. Saturday. Despite the expiration of those alerts, forecasters expect dangerous heat to continue into the coming week.
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms remained Saturday evening. Any storms that develop could produce gusty winds and frequent lightning, but widespread rainfall is not expected.

Temperatures are expected to remain near record levels through Monday. DFW Airport could reach 107 again Monday and 108 Tuesday before temperatures gradually decline later in the week. Highs are still forecast to remain in the triple digits through next weekend.
The prolonged dry spell also has elevated the threat of grass fires across North Texas, according to the weather service. Much of the region has gone more than a month without widespread rain, leaving vegetation increasingly dry. Lower humidity and occasional breezes could help fires ignite and spread.
Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water and check on older adults, children and people without reliable air conditioning. Children and pets should never be left inside parked vehicles.
