More than four decades after emerging from Phoenix’s wonderfully unruly underground music scene, the Meat Puppets will play another hometown show this fall.

The influential Arizona band will perform an unplugged set Friday, Sept. 25, at Phoenix Art Museum, opening the second season of the museum’s monthly SOUNDCHECK concert series. The 7 p.m. performance showcases founding members Curt Kirkwood, Cris Kirkwood and Derrick Bostrom in the very city whose punk scene helped launch one of alternative rock’s more unconventional careers.

“This doesn’t feel like an oldies act,” Bostrom said of the reunited founding lineup in a Phoenix Art Museum press release announcing the show. “It feels like the culmination.”
