There’s something new to do at the LA River! Bats call the river home, and you can head out after dark to spot them for yourself.
This August, Friends of the Los Angeles River (FoLAR) and the Natural History Museum are teaming up for Bats & Brews, an evening dedicated to discovering the mysterious bats of the LA River.
🦇Go bat spotting along the LA River
The evening kicks off at Frogtown Brewery, where participants will meet before heading out along the river.
Using bat detectors, the group will search for bats and listen in on their nighttime activity. The detectors help reveal sounds that are normally too high-pitched for humans to hear.
Along the way, you’ll learn more about the bats living around the LA River and their role in the local ecosystem.

After the river walk, everyone will return to Frogtown Brewery to analyze the evening’s findings.
Experts from LA Bat Rescue will also be on hand to share more about these fascinating nighttime creatures and answer questions.
It’s a fun way to experience a different side of the LA River while learning more about the wildlife living right in the city.
