A man is in critical condition after he was hit by a car in Phoenix, the city’s police department said.
On Aug. 22 around 11 p.m., officers were sent to a crash scene involving a pedestrian near 28th and Peoria avenues. As emergency crews arrived, they found a 53-year-old man with life‑threatening injuries.
Police said he was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition. His identity was not yet released.
Authorities said the driver fled the scene at first, then he returned a few minutes later. Officers spoke with him; officials said they saw signs of impairment.
During an initial investigation, police determined the pedestrian was arguing with a woman before the crash. Police said witnesses were reportedly chasing the pedestrian when he allegedly ran into the roadway and was struck by the vehicle.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
