A Dallas firefighter was taken to a hospital and a cat was revived after a house fire spread to a neighboring home Sunday, Dallas Fire-Rescue said.
The firefighter was the third Dallas firefighter injured while battling house fires Sunday. Earlier that morning, two firefighters were hospitalized with non-life-threatening burn injuries while responding to a blaze in East Oak Cliff. The department has not identified any of the injured firefighters.
Dallas Fire-Rescue units were dispatched around 6:26 p.m. to a home in the 6900 block of Echo Bluff Drive after a 911 caller reported a fire.
When firefighters arrived, they saw flames coming from the back of the one-story home. Crews began battling the blaze, but the fire spread to a neighboring home, requiring more firefighters to respond, according to Jason Evans, a Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman.
No residents were injured. Firefighters were able to rescue a cat from inside the first home and resuscitated the pet.
One firefighter was taken to a hospital after suffering a non-life-threatening injury to their arm while trying to put out the flames, Evans said.
The fire was brought under control around 7:15 p.m., though firefighters remained at the scene to make sure it didn’t spread any further.
The first home was heavily damaged, while the neighboring home had damage to its roof and attic area, Evans said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
