After more than 40 years, a longtime H-E-B is getting a major upgrade as the company reinvests in one of the Alamo City’s most notable stores. Soon shoppers at the Las Palmas H-E-B will see massive renovations underway, all without losing access to their beloved neighborhood grocer.

H-E-B announced in a news release on Monday, August 24, that the Las Palmas H-E-B on San Antonio’s Westside will soon begin renovations to “introduce a modernized storefront” and a new interior layout to “expand product selections and improve the overall shopping experience. The upgrades are expected to wrap up by late 2027, but the H-E-B will remain open during the entire process.

“This investment reflects our commitment to create a welcoming store built with our customers and community at heart,” H-E-B Top Store Leader Josh Sims said in the release. “We are eager to bring to our Las Palmas store a fresh look and updated shopping experience that this vibrant community will be proud of for years.”

There have been rumblings of upgrades coming to Las Palmas for a couple of years. A Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filing was submitted in 2025 that showed $15 million worth of renovations. At the time, H-E-B was still working out the details, but now fans know what to expect from the upcoming remodel.

The upgrades will see expanded shopping areas, streamlined shopping experiences, new product display cases and refrigeration, Meal Simples, a new Sushiya, a larger full-service H-E-B Pharmacy with two drive-thru lanes, updated administrative areas, new customer bathrooms and relocated floral and produce departments, the release shared. The curbside interior will also be relocated to better serve the dedicated Curbside parking areas, creating more time slots for pickups.

Additionally, the exterior of the store will be refreshed and enhanced to celebrate H-E-B’s iconic palm tree-filled design, the release announced

The Las Palmas H-E-B first opened in the 1950s as a department store but has been serving San Antonio as an H-E-B since 1982, according to the news release. Since it opened, it has received several upgrades over its 44 years.
