On Sunday, Gypsy Poet took to social media to explain what happened on Friday, Aug. 21. A video with the post showed the crowd surrounding its recently opened restaurant at 2512 Times Blvd.
“…a system glitch let far more orders through than our kitchen could realistically handle. By the time we caught it, wait times were already unusually long and the experience fell short of our standards. To everyone affected, we’re truly sorry,” the restaurant’s Instagram post states.
Gypsy Poet’s team went on to say that they were able to get things back under control, but only after they ultimately paused new orders for about an hour.
“Opening a new location comes with lessons. We’re already making immediate adjustments to prevent this from happening again and ensure we can give you the TGP experience you know and expect. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and incredible support.”
Gypsy Poet opened its Rice Village restaurant in the former space of Thai Village at the end of July. It’s the restaurant group’s third location in Houston. The flagship is in Midtown and the second is in the Heights neighborhood.
Though Gypsy Poet was apologizing for the fiasco, many of the restaurant’s fans filled the comments with support saying it’s “always worth the wait.” Some even compared it to the chaotic ticket machine scene in an episode of The Bear.
“That’s what I call a good problem to have,” one person commented while another added “We’d wait as long as we have to for our pizza.”
