PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A 12-year-old Phoenix girl has once again turned her passion for helping others into a mountain of diapers for local families in need.
Sloan Petty collected nearly 30,000 diapers this year as part of a diaper drive she has organized for the past five years, reaching out to friends, family and the broader community to gather donations.
Last week, Petty delivered the diapers to Nourish Phoenix, a food and clothing bank in central Phoenix that serves families across the Valley.
Diapers are among the most requested — and hardest to stretch — items for families struggling to make ends meet, as they aren’t covered by federal assistance programs like SNAP.
For Petty, watching her small idea grow into a community-wide effort has been an emotional experience.
“It also makes me really happy that I was able to do that. It’s kind of a weird feeling because I didn’t think it could become this big and do that much for other people. It’s a really amazing feeling,” Petty said.
