AMC Kips Bay 15 theater will roll credits for the last time at the end of the year.
A spokesperson for the theater chain told Variety the IMAX theater’s 15 screens are expected to remain active until 2026 comes to a close “at which time the theatre will close following the property owner’s decision to exercise its contractual right to terminate the theatre’s lease before its scheduled expiration.”
That theater on Second Avenue near E. 31st Street is AMC’s second-largest multiplex in Manhattan, according to Time Out. It opened in 1999 and has been operated by AMC for 20 years.
The movie house is currently screening blockbuster films including “The Odyssey” and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”

AMC thanked moviegoers for their support in a statement sent to Time Out.
“We are immensely grateful to our guests for their loyalty and support throughout the years,” the theater chain said.
AMC continues operation its AMC Empire 25 IMAX theater outside Times Square as well as its AMC 34th Street 14 near Penn Station.
An AMC representative hasn’t responded to a request for comment.
