Cal Raleigh keeps hitting home runs and keeps setting records in the process.

Red-hot Seattle Mariners prospect wins POTW honors

The slugger went yard again Monday for his MLB-leading 32nd home run in the Seattle Mariners’ 11-2 win over the Minnesota Twins.

It was the fourth straight game Raleigh homered in, which set a new career best. And it was Raleigh’s 10th home run this month, giving him three consecutive months with at least 10. He’s the first player in Mariners history with three straight months with at least 10 home runs and the first catcher in MLB history to do so.

Raleigh also took the MLB lead with 68 RBIs.

Raleigh hit his record-setting two-run blast out to left field off Twins reliever Joey Wentz with two outs in the ninth inning. It traveled 379 feet and came off the bat with a 100.6 mph exit velocity.

The home run Monday came after Raleigh set multiple records while hitting four home runs during a three-game series over the weekend with the Chicago Cubs.

He hit his 28th and 29th home runs in Friday’s game, which broke Hall of Famer Johnny Bench’s first-half record for catchers of 28 set in 1970. Raleigh hit his 30th the next day, which set the MLB record of 29 for switch-hitters before the All-Star break.

Raleigh appears to have another record in his sights, as well. Ken Griffey Jr. holds the Mariners’ record with 35 home runs by the Midsummer Classic. Raleigh has 19 games left to tie or break that mark.

And if he can take it even further, Raleigh could challenge Barry Bonds’ MLB record of 39 before the All-Star break. Bonds set that record during 2003 when he hit a record 73 home runs on the season. Raleigh is now on pace for 68 this season.
