Police kill suspect who shot at employee at Lodi McDonald’s, police say
LODI, Calif. —
A suspect was killed by police after shooting and injuring an employee at a Lodi McDonald’s on Monday morning, officials say.
The Lodi Police Department said officers around 9:30 a.m. went to the McDonald’s at West Lodi Avenue and Church Street for a reported disturbance. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered an employee had been shot, police said.
“As officers arrived on scene, they heard gunshots inside, and they heard screaming. Officers entered the building and ultimately it led to an officer involved shooting,” Corporal William Hinton with the Lodi Police Department said in a briefing Monday afternoon.
Following the shooting, officers called emergency personnel to assist and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Jonhatan Anguiano.
The employee who was shot was taken to the hospital where she is in stable condition. A motive for the shooting remains unknown.
No officers were injured.

KCRA 3’s Peyton Headlee observed the dining room of the business appeared to be closed. Multiple officers were inside, and police tape was visible.
The surrounding roads and intersection were also blocked off.
Hinton said he believes this was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public.
“It’s a very rare incident. We haven’t had an officer involved shooting in at least the last five or six years if I remember right. So, it’s pretty rare. But again, I think it was an isolated incident. So, there’s no threat to the public,” he said.
A neighboring business owner said police cars began to show up at the McDonald’s around 10:15 a.m.
Witness in the drive-thru recounts the shooting
Cheryl Steneck said she was one of three cars stuck in the drive-thru when the shooting happened. She was able to pull up and speak with the woman running the cash register before shots were fired.
“I asked the lady on the intercom if there was something going on inside, and she said, ‘yes, there’s somebody with a gun inside,'” Steneck said.
Steneck described the tense moments that followed.
“We both just didn’t know what to do. We both said we would pray, and then all of a sudden, we heard four gunshots being fired within. They were inside and she crouched down and put her hands over her head, and I closed my window and was stuck,” she said.
Shortly after the shots were fired, Steneck said she and the other cars were escorted out of the drive thru.
“I was scared to death,” she said.
Despite her fear, Steneck stayed at the scene, worried about the woman at the drive-thru window.
“I honestly wanted to make sure she was okay, and obviously I can’t talk to her yet. I will come back a later day or next week or something and give her a hug,” she said.
The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office is leading the shooting investigation. Other agencies investigating include the Department of Justice, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Two nearby schools, Clyde W. Needham Elementary and Needham West, were briefly put on lockdown.
