Chron reached out to KHOU 11 to confirm the move.

KHOU is set to take over production of CW39’s 9 p.m. newscast beginning Aug. 29. McGuff reports that new KHOU meteorologist Trevor Birchett, who joined the station earlier this month, will handle weather most nights. Weekend evening anchor and investigative reporter Cheryl Mercedes will anchor Saturday and Sunday night newscasts on both stations.

The Houston native graduated from Cypress Falls High School before earning his degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.

The upcoming switch also comes amid a complicated ownership situation involving KHOU parent company Tegna and Nexstar.

Nexstar completed its acquisition of Tegna in March, but the deal is facing antitrust lawsuits from multiple state attorneys general and DirecTV. A preliminary injunction currently requires Tegna to operate autonomously under Nexstar ownership while the legal challenges play out.
