GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — What started as a father-son bonding experience turned into a thriving charity to help Valley drivers who may not be able to afford a mechanic shop.
Michael Kuba founded “The Junkie Garage” in Glendale nearly 10 years ago, after he was faced with a financial dilemma and learned to repair his family’s vehicle himself.
The nonprofit is his way to help other families in similar situations, offering free or low-cost repairs for veterans, single parents, seniors, and working-class families.
“We try to help out everyone we can for the absolute cheapest price that we can,” Kuba said.
As a kid, Kuba shadowed his father fixing cars, but never imagined helping others on this scale.
Now, he’s getting help from his own son, Matthew.
“It’s so amazing to have the opportunity to help people like that. It helps people out so much, and they’re just so excited after,” said Matthew, who’s been assisting his dad since he was 10.
Kuba and his son in Glendale are doing Something Good by fixing donated vehicles for free and giving them to those in need. The Junkie Garage plans to raffle off a car after they’re done repairing it. They also provide donation-based air conditioning, brake and suspension repairs.
