A burst of flames injured two Fort Worth firefighters Monday night as it rushed through a burning home while fire crews were still inside, fire officials said.
Firefighters saw smoke as they arrived at the two-story home in the 7600 block of Crowley Road at 10:45 p.m., according to a news release from the Fort Worth Fire Department.
Crews went into the home and fought the blaze as they worked their way through. The firefighters were hit with a sudden burst of heat and flames as they made their way to the home’s second floor, according to the release. Wind gusts during the fire reached up to 25 mph, fire officials said in the release.
Firefighters upstairs called a mayday, and the incident commander issued a second-alarm. The crew that called the mayday was found by other firefighters and given medical care.
Two firefighters were taken to local hospitals with burn injuries but are listed in stable condition, fire officials said. The remaining crews at the scene were able to gain control of the blaze in less than an hour.
The American Red Cross was called to assist three people who were displaced, according to the release.
Three firefighters were also injured in Dallas this weekend during two separate blazes.
Two Dallas firefighters sustained non-life-threatening burn injuries Sunday morning while battling a blaze at an East Oak Cliff home in the 4600 block of Wadsworth Drive.
