As a parent, having a new store that we love open up close by is a big deal. It might not be the excitement we once thought of years ago, but make no mistake, it still is very exciting. MUJI is expanding with four new stores opening, including two locations that are firsts for their areas, which is great news if you’ve been making the trip into Manhattan to shop there.
The new stores are headed to:
- The Westchester – White Plains, NY (opening fall 2026)
- Roosevelt Field – Garden City, NY (2027)
- Newport Centre – Jersey City, NJ
The Westchester will be MUJI’s first store in New York State outside the five boroughs, and Roosevelt Field will be its first location on Long Island.
You may remember that earlier this year, Muji opened its first store in Flushing, Queens.

What’s in a MUJI Store
MUJI was founded in Japan in 1980, and the company focuses on simple, functional products without big or loud labels.
If you’ve never been, the store carries a wide range of household basics: clothing for kids and adults, storage and organization pieces, kitchen and dining items, bedding and bath products, stationery, personal care items, and its well-known Japanese snacks.
The clothing and home goods are simple, durable, and unbranded, with no logos or cartoon characters. Items like their storage bins and school supplies in particular are popular with parents.
It’s the kind of store that has a little of everything. You might go for a notebook or a set of drawer dividers, and end up picking up a few extra things while browsing through the rest of the aisles, which is such a nice back-to-school activity for moms when we are finally shopping alone again!
