PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – The five New York State troopers suspended last month were being disciplined for their handling of a car crash involving a trooper’s son in Clinton County last October.
The Albany Times Union reports the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office was the first to receive the call. The paper reports the off-duty trooper contacted a younger trooper, asking her to go to the scene. State police then took over the investigation.
The suspensions include the off-duty officer and the trooper who cleared their son of a DWI.
It remains unclear who the other suspended troopers are and why they faced disciplinary action.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office told WCAX it is aware of the investigation but cannot comment. The office added, “In reference to the Sheriff’s Office involvement, we find inaccuracies in the reporting and will withhold further comment at this time.”
The New York State Police have not responded to calls for comment.
