PORTAGE, Wis. (WMTV) – Two kangaroos are dead after being hit on I-39 near Portage on Sunday.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, four kangaroos escaped a trailer while the owner was stopped near the interstate to transfer animals between vehicles.
Wisconsin State Patrol officials responded around noon Sunday on I-39 at mile marker 85 near Portage after they were called to assist after two of the kangaroos were hit by vehicles on the northbound on-ramp from WIS 78 to I-39.
Those two kangaroos did not survive, one was recovered by the owner and one kangaroo is still missing.
WSP asked drivers to not stop on the interstate to look for the missing kangaroo. If you see it, report it to law enforcement.
