The idea that the New Jersey Devils could be a fit for an aging veteran forward was actually more well received than I thought it would be when the idea was brought up yesterday. More on who, and why he’s a fit below, but color me shocked that most propositions, at least via X, are typically scoffed at. But not this one.

Elsewhere, time is ticking on an Erik Karlsson trade. It makes me wonder about a certain Devils defenseman, too. Plus, plenty more stories outside the National Hockey Now network today.

Athlon Sports: Stan Bowman took some criticism after he inked Trent Frederic to an eight-year contract. However, he defended the decision to give the 27-year-old max term.

Florida Hockey Now: We know he’s not going anywhere now, but Aaron Ekblad knew all along. The former first overall pick explained he was never leaving the Florida Panthers via free agency.

Montreal Hockey Now: You all remember Saku Koivu, right? The legendary Finnish forward made quite the NHL career for himself, playing in over 1,100 games. Now, his son is making noise in the Montreal Canadiens pipeline, with NHL aspirations like his fathers.
