Shamire James Gadson, 18, of Philadelphia, one of six people implicated in a break-in at the National Range and Armory at 531 Washington Boulevard during the early-morning hours of June 6, was arrested late Monday and jailed following his arraignment, according to city police. It is alleged that he and five others, including four male teen-age juveniles, traveled together in a stolen gold Kia SUV to the business with the intent to commit a burglary.

To get in, a half cinder block was used to smash out a window, police said. It was alleged that Gadson allegedly climbed in and grabbed two rifles before the group fled in the SUV after a nearby resident confronted them, police said.

The six traveled to the Philadelphia area, where a state trooper attempted to stop them on or near the Northeast Extension, it was stated in an affidavit. Gadson, who was behind the wheel, took off at a high rate of speed, but during the pursuit, he crashed at an undisclosed location in Montgomery County, the court document stated. The two stolen rifles were recovered in the wreckage, police said.

The six who were in the vehicle took off running, but they were soon captured by local police. Gadson, who faces several charges stemming from the pursuit and crash, was arraigned and later released on bail.

One week after the break-in, police charged Gadson and a second man, who has yet to be arraigned, with multiple felonies, including burglary, trespassing, theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy as well as well three misdemeanors which included criminal mischief, possession of an instrument of crime and another county of conspiracy . No details were available on where Gadson was arrested Monday. Following his arraignment before District Judge Denise Dieter in Jersey Shore, he was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $200,000 bail.

Two days after turning 16, Gadson was involved in a shooting in the 500 block of West Edwin Street in which he allegedly fired at a 22-year-old man at close range on Aug. 19, 2022, city police said. The man drew a legally-concealed firearm and both he and Gadson exchanged gunfire, police said. The teenager was struck by several rounds, but recovered from his injuries.

Upon being discharged from the hospital, Gadson was charged as an adult with attempted homicide and related offenses and placed in the Lycoming County Prison. However, the case was eventually moved to juvenile court. At his arraignment on the new charges, Gadson told Dieter that in the shooting case, he pled guilty to firearm offenses and all other charges were withdrawn.

Efforts to get any information from city police on Monday on whether the juveniles involved in the burglary have been charged and arrested were unsuccessful.
