Fort Worth ISD canceled all outdoor after-school activities and practices Wednesday, as wildfires scorch thousands of acres across Texas.

Fort Worth ISD said all activities may continue indoors, and the district will provide updates on outdoor activities throughout the week as conditions change. The fire was 12% contained as of Wednesday morning, according to Texas A&M Forest Service.

Many Fort Worth ISD schools are scheduled to kick off the 2026 high school football season Thursday and Friday.

School districts across the Dallas-Fort Worth area have already pushed back start times for football games this week due to high temperatures. North Texas has been under extreme heat warnings for several days leading up to the start of the UIL football season.
