Big weather changes in store this weekend for Arizona

  • August 27, 2026

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It’s another First Alert Weather Day for heat in the Valley. Look for a high of 114 degrees today, which will tie the daily record. This is three degrees cooler than yesterday’s record-tying 117 degrees.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Saturday night, and Friday and Saturday are also First Alert days for the heat. Sunday is also a First Alert weather day for the potential for storms.

A major weather pattern change is shaping up for the Southwest as high pressure shifts, an area of low pressure moves into the Northwest, and tropical moisture may move into Arizona as well.

At this point, there is a slight chance of late-night storms tonight and again tomorrow night. But a bigger chance of storms arrives Saturday, with chances near 40 percent for Saturday evening and night.

By Sunday, storm chances are near 50 percent. Strong storms are possible Sunday and potentially into Monday, with heavy rain also a threat.

Temperatures will slowly begin to come down as well. Look for a high of 105 by Sunday and 101 by next week. With enough rain, we may even be lucky enough to get a day in the 90s.
