I’m sure many of you, like me, enjoy a chocolate sweet after dinner. If you’re not a chocolate fan, I won’t hold it against you. We just can’t be friends.
It would make a lot of sense to talk about chocolatiers in this week’s column, such as Kate Weiser, Chocolate Hangover, Dr. Sue’s Chocolate and City Sweets. I chose not to include them here because I consider them to be retail storefronts rather than eateries.
Places with in-house or patio seating are fair game, which is why we’re looking at restaurants around Tarrant County ranging from seafood to Italian cuisine stops.
Smoked chocolate pie at Woodshed Smokehouse
If you’re seeking a new way to satisfy your cocoa craving, know that Woodshed Smokehouse has a smoked chocolate pie on offer for $8. The menu doesn’t describe the confection, but a post on the restaurant’s Instagram account shows it as a single-person pie — I mean, I guess you could share — topped with toasted meringue.
This Tim Love spot takes its smoked meat seriously, so much so, foodies can find details on which type of wood is used to create savories on the menu. Mesquite, oak, hickory and pecan are used to prepare surf and turf mains and starters like New Orleans oysters, potatoes with smoked garlic aioli, smoked hummus, and a beet and smoked barley salad.

Chocolate souffle at Wicked Butcher
Wicked Butcher is not only a spot for savory dishes, but also a number of desserts. Their menu shows two chocolate sweets: a dark chocolate tart served with hazelnut streusel and peanut butter mousse, and a chocolate souffle. The latter includes creme anglaise and is garnished with gold leaf.
On the subtler side, there’s banana pudding with toasted coconut and mango lavender creme brulee with fig, diced mango and golden raisins.
Wicked Butcher is also participating in DFW Restaurant Week, so all you foodies who haven’t had time to snag some specials from the limited-time menus around the county still have time to dine while benefiting charity. The chocolate tart, banana pudding and creme brulee are the three possible dessert course picks on the eatery’s $59 three-course Restaurant Week menu, proceeds from which will go to supporting the nonprofit Lena Pope.

Chocolate malt cake at Truluck’s
The steak and seafood restaurant in Southlake Town Square has seven desserts to choose from, and perhaps their most notable is the chocolate malt cake under malt icing, berries and chocolate sauce. The menu suggests pairing this dish with port.
If you’re not a chocolate lover, know that Truluck’s also serves carrot cake with spicy pecans, key lime pie, baked Alaska, affogato, vanilla creme brulee and a Citrusmisu. That fruity take on tiramisu is a limited-time special featuring citrus marscapone, lady fingers and strawberries.
1420 Plaza Place, Southlake; 817-912-0500
Chocolate-dipped brownies at Mugs Cafe & Bakery
While the daily pastry menu at Mugs Cafe & Bakery varies, their online menu is extensive and many chocolate sweets are there, from the classic chocolate chip cookie to a chocolate raspberry tart, chocolate-dipped brownies and chocolate croissants.
They make pies to order, as well, and chocolate is one of six flavors listed on their website. Others are coconut, pumpkin, caramel apple tart, buttermilk raspberry and pecan.
