With Labor Day just around the corner, those with the day off may need to adjust their plans for grocery shopping or mailing a package.
Labor Day is observed on the first Monday in September, which falls on Sept. 7 this year. The federal holiday grew out of the late 19th century American labor movement, when many workers pushed for better wages and working hours and safer work conditions.
Some businesses and local government offices may be closed for the holiday. Here’s what to know.
Most grocery stores, including H-E-B, Walmart and Sam’s Club, are expected to be open on Labor Day, according to their respective websites. Hours may vary by location.
Costco will be closed for Labor Day, according to its website.
The U.S. Postal Service will be closed in observance of the federal holiday. All post office locations will be closed, and regular mail delivery and shopping services will return Sept. 8.
Some Dallas city offices and facilities will be closed Sept. 7, including Dallas Public Library locations and Dallas Municipal Court.
Fort Worth and Dallas residents will have no change to their garbage and recycling pickup schedule.
Arlington, Frisco and McKinney residents will not have trash collection on Labor Day. Monday collections will be moved to Tuesday, with the rest of the week’s pickups delayed by one day.
Plano’s Monday garbage collection will move to Tuesday, Sept. 8.
