ATLANTA — Georgia health officials have confirmed four new measles cases linked to a daycare setting in metro Atlanta.
The Georgia Department of Public Health said the four children were close contacts of a person with measles reported in metro Atlanta last week.
The outbreak has been linked to a daycare in the metro Atlanta area, LIVE on Channel 2 Action News at 5:00 p.m.

As of today, 11 measles cases have been confirmed in Georgia this year. Three members of a metro Atlanta family tested positive back in May.
The department said the children were “either unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated” and it is working to identify additional close contacts.
The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning did not release the location of the daycare where the exposures happened.

“We are aware of the reported measles exposure involving a childcare center in Metro Atlanta and are deeply concerned for those who may be affected,” a spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning said.
“DECAL is actively working with the center and the Georgia Department of Public Health to ensure an appropriate response consistent with public health guidance and established protocols. Our priority is the health, safety and well-being of the children, families and staff involved,” the spokesperson said.

The Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says if one person has measles, up to nine out of 10 people who come into close contact with that person will become infected if they are not protected.
The CDC said the best protection is vaccination.
DPH said measles spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes, and the MMR vaccine is safe and effective.
